Hey Noire Family, T. Denise takes us on a relaxing travel adventure. This getaway focuses on mental health and relaxation. Since this month is all about love, she shows us just that, how to give ourselves some love.

Traveling has always been one of my top self care routines. It has always been a way to allow me to reconnect with my thoughts, feelings and myself. It allows me to escape life’s daily demands while prioritizing my mental health.

I ran across the Getaway house on social media back when the pandemic first started. I remember entering my best friend in the drawing they were advertising last year. They were awarding a free stay to a person who was nominated and had the best story about philanthropic help in their community. I thought, that’s my best friend! I’ll nominate him!!! At the time, there weren’t any outpost close enough to me, so I just continued to admire the social media post.

It wasn’t until I discovered through a friend’s social media post that Getaway House now have a location closer to New Orleans. The drive is about 2 hours from Baton Rouge and 2 1/2 hours from New Orleans.

I decided that I would book a weekend Getaway. Boy, did I need it. Especially since I canceled my 8 day vacation to Medellin, Colombia that I was supposed to take a week prior. This was the perfect makeup for canceling my vacation.

I stayed in the Henrietta cabin. It was in the perfect location within the post. My cabin had a comfy queen size bed with a huge picture window that made for a beautiful photo op, if you love to take pictures. There was a private bathroom, air conditioning and heating system, a charming mini kitchen and books to read. Outside was a picnic bench table and a fire pit to roast marshmallows. There were no TVs. This allowed me to really relax and connect with nature. I’m already thinking of planning my next stay!
