NOIRE Kwanzaa Honorees: Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders, Ujima (Collective Works And Responsibility)

To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems and solve them together.

As depicted in Noire’s “Can You Smell What Coach Prime is Cooking?” series, head football coach Deion Sanders is taking a lead in raising the bar for not only Jackson State Football, but the whole state of Mississippi, SWAC and HBCU athletics altogether. While his run for a Black National Championship fell just short this season at the Celebration Bowl, his successful recruiting of Travis Hunter, the nation’s No. 1 high school football player, shook up the college football world and brought HBCU Football into the national limelight. Undaunted, a laser-focused Sanders continues on his mission to elevate the game for HBCU sports and more people are buying into it.
