NOIRE Salutes Omega Psi Phi Achievement Week

Noire Celebrates Omega Psi Phi’s Achievement Week

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (ΩΨΦ) is the first international fraternal organization founded on the campus of a historically black college. This illustrious fraternity was founded on November 17, 1911.  The founders were Howard University juniors Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper, and Frank Coleman, along with their faculty adviser, Dr. Ernest Everett Just.

From the initials of the Greek phrase meaning, “friendship is essential to the soul“, the name Omega Psi Phi was derived. That phrase was selected as the motto.

Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift were adopted as Cardinal Principles.

Omega Psi Phi Achievement Week is a week in November that coincides with the day Omega Psi Phi was founded.  There are celebrations and community outreach performed by members of the fraternity.  The fraternity also recognizes individuals who have made notable contributions to society during the previous year. High school essay contests are held across the various chapters and the winners receive  scholarships from the chapters.

Noireonline.com is thankful to shine a spotlight on one of our brightest jewels, Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity, Inc.  We salute the vision of your founders and the work those that followed put forth, to keep the flame of Omega burning bright.
