HBCU Homecoming In Their Words.

Welcome to HBCUs in their words!

Our first series will focus on HBCU Homecomings. If you have never had the opportunity to experience one, then you must jump at the chance.

Phone a friend and get to an HBCU Homecoming to have the experience of your life. Many of our initial exposure to HBCU life was through media and television.

Who can forget how we all wanted to attend Hillman College? Greek life on an HBCU campus was intriguing and mysterious because of Spike Lee’s School Daze. These shows caused people to flock to HBCUs.

Homecoming is just one part of the Black college experience, and it is truly an enjoyable one. You don’t have to take our word for it. Let’s hear it in the words of current students and alumni of various HBCUs.

GRAMBLING STATE UNIVERSITY, Grambling, LA

"Grambling State University's Homecoming is unrivaled because it is full of tremendous school spirit and energy. The students and Alumni exude a strong passion and pride for their school that warms the whole campus. The atmosphere is different during Homecoming, and it is evident that the events are planned strategically in order to allow the #GRAMFAM to have the best experience they can during this special week leading up to the game! This year's theme was 'UNAPOLOGETICALLY ___A Homecoming Your Way.' This to me symbolized that you can fill in the blank with whatever YOU are, and be unapologetically YOU.

This is exactly what Grambling is all about and while, despite battles that may be sent to dim our light, Grambling Homecoming, our spirit, and our love for this illustrious University can never be shaken!"

Emily Lewis, KGRM Production Assistant, Class of 2022
