OPENING THIS MONTH

King Richard

This HIGHLY ANTICIPATED film is finally here. The two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith created some online buzz about his upcoming portrayal of Richard Williams. Some fans were a little salty that The Fresh Prince was chosen for this role. They felt that he didn’t look ANYTHING like Venus and Serena’s Dad. There was even a fan generated list of other aesthetically “qualified” actors circulating the blogs. But once the King Richard trailer hit the newsfeeds the chatter began to cease. This film documents the life of two of our greatest athletes’s climb to success while simultaneously battling racism and sexism. They were trained and groomed by their no-nonsense, non-tennis playing Dad. We’ve all witnessed their extraordinary road to success that was accomplished in a very unconventional way. It’s an inspiring true story and in true Will Smith form he was able to channel the “King” in a very convincing way.

Will’s co-stars include the fabulous Aunjanue Ellis, Saniyya Sidney, Demi Singleton, Tony Goldwyn and Jon Bernthal. King Richard hits the theaters and HBOMax on November 19th.

True Story

Raise your hand if you’re excited to see Wesley Snipes on the silver screen again . You’ll be able to check him out in Kevin Hart’s new dramatic series “True Story”. This project features Hart as The Kid, a successful, world-famous stand-up comedian. On a tour stop in his hometown in Philadelphia, he reconnects with his older brother Carlton, played by Snipes. But when something very serious happens after their first night back together, all of The Kid’s success becomes jeopardized. This is a dramatic role for Kevin and according to him this genre is “intentional”. We can check out his acting and executive producing chops in this new project. The series premieres on Nov. 24 on Netflix.
