Destination NOIRE: Tommy Brown Explores Cartagena, Columbia

Hello Noire Family!!  We are introducing our newest member of Destination Noire, Mr. Tommy Brown.  Tommy recently travelled to Cartagena, Columbia.

Hello Noire Family, I recently travelled to the beautiful South American country of Columbia.  It was one of the most beautiful and vibrant places I have visited.

I have always wanted to know what’s behind the walls of Columbia. Well, I am so glad I decided to go and take a look.  Check out the detail of the wall that surrounds the old city of Columbia. Cannon‘s protruding from the walls pointing towards sea. It’s safe to say battles of the past shape the ambience of a community.

The Journey of Cartagena

I had no idea how economical Columbia is opposed to Mexico. The Mexican peso is 20 pesos per 1 US dollar. Well, in Cartagena, Columbia one COP(Colombian peso) is 0.00027 pesos vs 1 US dollar. This is a value I thought was major, but it was more than I imagined.  Can you say majorly convenient?! To use Uber, the cost was usually around $2 US dollar. This was amazing!

The neighborhood streets of all Cartagena, Columbia radiates a colorful ambience with beautiful piñata like decor draped throughout the streets. The streets are very narrow. This means most vehicles are compact increasing the ability to maneuver properly. Don’t expect large vehicles when travelling inside the city.  Don’t be worried but erratic driving is probably worse than New York City.

I can't forget about the famous congregation spot, the clock tower/Time Square. If you notice in the photo, there's a boat dock. Columbia has beautiful views of a lake in the ocean side by side.

The food was amazing!!  Of course, everything was so fresh.  All of the seafood was fresh from the bay or the Caribbean Sea.  Cartagena is surrounded by so much water, only a small sliver of land keeps it from being an island.

The visit to Cartagena was exciting and relaxing.  The people and the sites were awesome.  Get your passport and go explore this big, beautiful world!
