February Is Now Black Love Month

Ya’ll can do what you want, but Noire will be celebrating being Black 365 days of the year.  There could be no American history without Black history.  Our blackness is an everyday thing.  There is no way to wrap us up in twenty-eight days.

How can we take a month, and a short month at that, to celebrate our greatness?  It just can’t be done.  There is no way to wrap us up in twenty-eight days.

When the father of Black history, Carter G. Woodson, created this holiday, he only had our best interest in mind.  He wanted to celebrate the accomplishments of African Americans, because we definitely were not celebrated at all.

Woodson’s purpose was to educate Blacks on the many contributions made by African Americans to American society and to give Blacks a sense of pride.  It is a statement of we are more than our circumstances and societies portrayal of us. It was and still is a great idea.

Any moment of celebration granted to Blacks back then was an accomplishment.  Black people took any moment of joy that they could get. Our contributions and accomplishments were great and remain remarkable despite continuous adversity.

Black history is history, not just American history.  It is not up to the oppressor to teach the oppressed.  We MUST begin teaching our true history to our people.  We should have learned this from our ancestors.  They did everything they could to keep our history, traditions, and culture alive, when everyone tried to bury it.  It is up to us to unearth our lives and tell our stories in our voices.

Noire’s purpose is to provide true, high-quality narratives of people of color.  Our mantra is “Our Lives, Our Stories, Our Voices.”

We are changing the narrative and we are setting our own standards.   We are more than what the world is traditionally shown. Our families are thriving. Our kids are achieving great things. Our people have wide-ranging talents. The world needs to see us in our true light.

Noire begins by changing the narrative and setting our own standards.  We choose to celebrate Black history everyday of every year. February is our month of Black Love.  We celebrate everything NOIRE.  Everything we create, we nourish, and we grow.

As Anthony Hamilton so wonderfully wrote, Love is the New Black!
