NOIRE Kwanzaa Honorees: Stacey Abrams, Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)

“To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves.”

Stacey Abrams was not one bit deterred when she lost the 2018 Georgia Gubernatorial race by narrow and controversial margins. On the contrary, she has gone on to build several powerful coalitions and institutions that appears to be sending one clear message: do not wait for anyone to liberate you, grab liberty yourself.

Through the establishing of several organizations such as Fair Fight, Southern Economic Advancement Project (SEAP) and the New Georgia Project, Abrams has also been fostering a growing movement to fight voter suppression and empower grassroots communities to build their own economic base. She is infusing the courage for people to dare to build, along with the work ethics that will build brick-by-brick the leadership to inspire others as they collaborate with her.

After all, that is all about what Self-Determination is about. We will see much more of Abrams as she has announced another run for Governor of Georgia in 2022.
