NOIRE Kwanzaa Honorees: Rev. William Barber, Umoja (Unity)

"To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race."

Rev. William Barber II first gained national prominence in 2013 when he began his Moral Mondays protests and rallies, where he brought together a rainbow of volunteers, advocates and activists, representing every single walk of life, ethnicity and income range. Barber addressed and fought against any measure of social injustice, including voter suppression, cutting social programs, environmental hazards and policies that supported poverty conditions.

Now, as the President and Senior Lecturer at Repairers of the Breach, he is also co-chair of the Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, carrying on a movement that was started by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Also, a National Board Member of the NAACP, his 14-point anti-racism, anti-poverty, anti-war agenda has a multicultural coalition of followers and warriors for justice.
