A Journal For Jordan

When Denzel Washington says “jump” you say “how high?”.

That was Michael B. Jordan’s response when asked to star in “A Journal For Jordan”. For years Denzel wanted to do this film while he was still considered the sexiest man alive; but he was toooooo busy making some of our favorite blockbuster hits. In between projects he and his team worked on perfecting the “Journal’s” screenplay and ultimately decided that he would stay behind the camera on this one.

Fast forward to 2020 - the 1996 “People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive” passes the torch to the 2017 recipient - Michael B Jordan. He is the hollywood “IT” guy and was hand picked by Denzel to be the new leading man.

“A Journal For Jordan” is based on a true love story in New York City. The eight-year journey is written and experienced by Sgt. Charles Monroe King and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Dana Canedy - portrayed by newcomer, Chante Adams. The most compelling co-star in the film is a 200-page journal left behind by Michael B. Jordan’s character - Charles. The pages come to life with heartfelt reflections and loving fatherly advice written for baby Jordan before he became a fallen soldier in the Iraq war.

The journal is for Jordan but we can all benefit from this story. It’s a celebration of Black love and a guide to celebrate life after loss. It’s a reminder to choose love and to fight for it. Although tragic, you will feel refreshed while watching a Beautiful Black King loving his Queen and a Black father pouring into his son through written word.

Charles King lost his life while fighting for our country when baby Jordan was only six months old. Next year, the now teenager will celebrate his 16th Birthday. It’s comforting to know that he will be old enough to comprehend the passages in his journal on a deeper level. His mother’s idea to create this priceless heirloom for her son guarantees that his father’s legacy will live on.

“A Journal For Jordan” stars: producer, Michael B. Jordan and Chante Adams. It is directed and produced by Denzel Washington and written by Virgil Williams. This highly anticipated film opens on Christmas Day. For now it can only be seen in theaters. But with the new pandemic precautions tightening up in places like New York and LA just days before opening weekend - the box office numbers will likely take a hit. So it’s safe to say that we can expect a streaming option sooner rather that later.

In the meantime check your local listings and get your theater tickets now.
